Evaluation-Preliminary
Evaluation
Overall I was
very happy with my final magazine however I do feel certain areas could be done
better next time. In my personal opinion
I was very happy with my photography as I feel it met the standards I set and
would be effective in drawing in my target audience of music lovers. However I was not as happy with the layout of
the articles down the side and I do not feel that they are striking enough to
catch the audience’s attention and persuade them to read on. In my actual piece I think I will use more
vibrant bright colours to attract the audience in to read on. In my original
plan I wished to use reds and blues however when creating the front cover these
colours did not fit in well and took over the main image too much. So I decided
to use softer colours which aren’t as eye catching but I feel work well in not
overpowering the main image.

Target Audience
The target
audience I have chosen for my 6th form magazine will be individuals
between the ages of 15 to 18. This is because the individuals between the ages
of 16 to 18 will be studying in the 6th form making the magazine and
the articles within very relevant. Furthermore the pupils that are around 15
years old will be shortly joining the 6th form and so may be
interested in reading the magazine to find out common questions like what to
wear? What to do in frees?
The mixed
gender target audience means the magazine will vary, it will have a variety of different articles
within to attract and entertain both genders. For example the females may want
to read about fashion whereas the male audience may be more interested in
sporting clubs, fixtures and results. This maximises the amount of individuals
reading my magazine and so increases the popularity. The colour scheme was also thought about and I
soon came to the conclusion of using a plain white background with the image
and bold reds and blues being used on the front cover. I chose to use this
colour scheme as I feel it is suitable for both genders and does not favour one
or the other.

As shown
above I made a quick serve and asked 100 pupils across year 11, 12 and 13. As
you can see music was a clear winner as to what the majority of individuals
across the 3 years are most interested in reading about, this was closely
followed by sport. This shows a common interest between the pupils across the
years. Therefore my 6th form magazine will be mainly about music and
sport related articles.

As you can see the
bike magazine is very effective at capturing the audience’s attention and
drawing them in to read more. The main image of the motorbike is bold and
placed in the centre of the front cover; this is very effective as it instantly
attracts the target audience of bike enthusiasts. The title and image back this point up as if
you were not interested in them you would not look twice. Following on from this there is also a prize
to be won; this is shown on the front cover luring individuals in as they would
like a chance to win. Advertisements are also shown, this encourages
individuals to buy the magazine and read up about the new bikes on offer. The
puff helps to big up the magazine and make it seem even better, this makes
individuals want to read on for exclusives.

As seen above most magazines follow the same trends and
techniques to attract and engage the target audience. These are as follows.
·
Bold headline to catch the audience’s attention.
·
Bold colours that stand out.
·
Main image drawing the target audience in.
·
Lead article in bold.
·
Puff
·
Skyline.
·
Mast head.
